What Is A Prosthodontist?

What is Prosthodontics?

Dr. Martin Supowitz - Prosthodontist & Cosmetic Dentist

Prosthodontics is one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). A prosthodontist is a dental specialist who deals with simple and complex tooth restorations from a single tooth to a completely new smile (“smile makeovers“). Prosthodontists seek the optimal balance of cosmetics and function by enhancing natural teeth with aesthetic restorations. When teeth are missing, they turn to implants, fixed bridges or removable restorations for solutions. Prosthodontists require two to three years of additional training and education beyond dental school. Prosthodontists are often awarded a certificate in their specialty, while a select few such as Dr. Supowitz earn an advanced degree (MSD) as well.

Areas of Expertise

  • Aesthetic Dentistry (veneers, crowns, tooth colored restorations and whitening procedures)
  • Implant Dentistry (replacement of single and multiple missing teeth)
  • Reconstructive Dentistry (crowns, bridges, dentures, traumatic injuries to the teeth, complex rehabilitations)
