Teeth Whitening Pittsburgh

Having a beautiful smile may be even easier than you think. Many people achieve the look they’ve been dreaming of with our “teeth whitening” procedures.

It’s safe, quick and less costly than other esthetic procedures.

We offer different types of whitening treatment:

  • In-Office Whitening Treatment (A precise application of concentrated whitening gel)
  • At-Home Whitening Treatment (Custom carrier trays utilized with a whitening gel)
  • A combination of In-Office & At-Home treatments achieves the quickest results!

In some cases, the change is quite dramatic. For confidence in appearance, teeth whitening technology allows one to see dramatic improvement in yellowing, aging or stained teeth. For very severely discolored teeth, crowns or veneers may be more appropriate.

What can cause tooth discoloration?

There are many causes. The most common include aging and staining from substances such as coffee, tea or tobacco. During childhood tooth formation, consumption of certain antibiotics such as tetracycline or excessive fluoride may cause tooth discoloration.

Who may benefit from teeth whitening?

Just about anyone. However, treatment may not be as effective for some as it is for others. Dr. Supowitz will give you an oral examination to assess the color of your teeth. This examination can determine if you are a good candidate for whitening procedures. In cases of extreme tooth discoloration, crowns or veneers may be your only choice, but because of the relatively low cost of teeth whitening treatments, teeth whitening is nearly always worth a try.

Is teeth whitening becoming more popular?

Absolutely! A bright, beautiful smile can make a big difference. The In-Office bleaching procedure makes it easier and faster than ever before. In a little more than an hour while you relax at Dr. Supowitz’s office, your teeth can become dramatically lighter.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes, research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. In fact, many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. Tooth whitening products are not recommended for pregnant or lactating women or children under the age of 13.

Do the results last a long time?

By following some simple post-whitening care instructions and touch-ups with the At-Home gel (about once every six months), your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. The professional formula products available through our office, are designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest.

How does the In-Office System work?

The whitening gel's active ingredient is a form of peroxide. As the peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, lightening any colored substance while keeping the structure of the tooth unchanged.

Is the In-Office procedure painful?

No. During the procedure, patients can actually watch television or listen to music. (Bring your ipod!) Many fall asleep.

Are there any side effects?

Some people experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity to cold. These symptoms disappear within 2 days after interruption or completion of the treatment.

How long does the In-Office procedure take?

The entire procedure takes approximately 1½ hours. The procedure begins with a preparation period (polishing your teeth and placing a protective sealant on your gums) followed by one hour of whitening. A fluoride treatment to decrease the chance of tooth sensitivity completes the procedure.

How long does At-Home Whitening take?

Custom carrier trays with whitening gel are worn between 2 to 4 hours per application. Typically five applications spaced over 1½ weeks will achieve optimal results. Dr. Supowitz will help you determine how many applications are right for you.
